Darumbal Certificate II in Firefighting Operations
July 26, 2021
Darumbal Enterprises through Malcolm Mann along with Gawula Aboriginal Land Trust were successful in receiving funding which has been provided by Fitzroy Basin Association through the Australian Governments National Landcare Programme to participate in Certificate II in Firefighting Operations facilitated by Queensland Fire & Emergency Service (QFES). The aim is to increase the meaningful participation of Traditional Custodians in natural resources management.
Darumbal Enterprises are engaging with other agencies such as department of Natural Resources Energy and Mines, Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service and the Livingstone Shire Council in regards to fire mitigation with an aim to establish a Ranger workforce to facilitate work and become another asset in the region to protect our community and country from devastating fires.
This is the first step of many, beginning with this initial training and securing personal protective clothing for our Darumbal accredited firefighters. Further training will be provided and additional steps to secure further resources such as fire fighting appliances, personal protective equipment etc.
This is a significant step for Darumbal and a positive effort towards creating a Darumbal Workforce in land and sea country management space. Our goal is to ensure that we are capable for securing contracts from various stakeholders within our country to provide a land and sea management service unlike existing agencies and yet compatible. The long term goal for Darumbal is to be able to take care of our own land and sea management needs from our perspective typically within our native title area.
If you are interest in participation in Darumbal Land and Sea management activities, please contact the Darumbal Enterprises office.
